JANUARY 2026

Over the past year, the Human Innovation Institute has been focused on building the foundational architecture of a new discipline. We clarified our purpose, established the core frameworks of Human Innovation, and designed the structures needed to support long-term research, collaboration, and applied work. As we enter 2026, that foundation is now stable enough to shift from building to activation.

This year, our focus is on bringing human innovation to the world and produce real impact. We are publishing Institute Themes (more below) that serve as the anchors for guiding our research and provocations. We are advancing Frontier Domains that translate those themes into the real arenas where transition is unfolding in the world. We are organizing sponsorships, partnerships, and labs around those domains to ensure we hit our targets. And we are deepening engagement with mutual benefit partners who are building alongside us at the frontier of human advancement.

Publishing Institute Themes

Over the past year, the Human Innovation Institute has been building the foundational architecture of a new discipline. As we move into 2026, that architecture is now stable enough to do what it was designed to do: generate insight, guide applied work, and help people and institutions make sense and change during the Great Transition.

At the center of this work are our Institute Themes. These themes function as high-altitude pressure zones that orient our research, shape our provocations, and guide how we interpret what is changing in the world. They are enduring lenses designed to surface the deeper pressures reshaping human capability, contribution, technology, culture, and leadership.

By publishing and working from a clear set of Institute Themes, we ensure coherence across everything we do, from research and writing to labs, partnerships, and programs. The themes give us a shared language for exploration and a stable foundation from which insight can compound over time. They allow us to move beyond reactive commentary and toward intentional field-building.

These themes now serve as the conceptual backbone of the Institute and the starting point for how we translate insight into action.

Creating Frontier Domains

While Institute Themes provide the conceptual foundation for our work, Frontier Domains are where that thinking becomes applied. Frontier Domains nest into and translate the Institute Themes into the concrete areas where real human and systemic transition is occurring.

Each Frontier Domain represents a distinct pressure zone of The Great Transition. These are environments where assumptions are breaking down, new capabilities are required, and individuals and institutions are being reshaped in real time. Frontier Domains are live areas for exploration, experimentation, and applied research.

By working through Frontier Domains, the Institute ensures that insight is grounded in a lived reality. These are spaces where Human Innovation is tested, refined, and advanced through direct engagement with the all of you and into the world.

Activating the Work Through Labs

In 2026, the Human Innovation Institute will be hosting a series of Labs organized around our Institute Themes and Frontier Domains. These Labs are designed as applied environments where the pressures of the Great Transition can be explored, tested, and worked with directly.

Each Lab is anchored in a specific Frontier Domain, bringing together research, real-world context, and diverse perspectives to examine how human capability, judgment, and leadership are evolving amid new conditions. Rather than focusing on predefined outcomes, Labs function as structured sessions for inquiry, experimentation, and synthesis, allowing insight to emerge through engagement.

These Labs represent one of the Institute’s primary mechanisms for translating research and provocation into lived practice. They create a bridge between thinking and doing, offering participants the opportunity to work at the frontier of change while contributing to the ongoing development of Human Innovation as a discipline.
