MARCH 2026

One Year Anniversary

What a year it's been at the Human Innovation Institute.

Long sprints. Shipping. Refining. Iterating. Creating human innovation as a new capability to navigate The Great Transition.

Over the course of the past year, Human Innovation has evolved from a simple concept to a launched and usable framework. Sensing that innovation, and humanity, both needed an upgrade we rolled up our sleeves and began the deep dive into The Great Transition and what's needed most in the world now. We noticed that individuals, teams, and organizations were massively underutilizing their potential which led to the creation of Human Innovation as a new and novel discipline.

Human Innovation was officially born. Onward into Year 2!

Introducing Human Innovation Management

Over the past decade, organizations have invested billions in innovation labs, pilots, and transformation programs, yet few produce durable results. The constraint is rarely a lack of ideas or technology. More often, it is human capability. Many organizations built systems to manage innovation, but far fewer built systems to develop the capabilities required to navigate complexity and uncertainty. Human Innovation Management addresses this gap by strengthening leaders’ and teams’ ability to interpret change, collaborate across boundaries, and adapt before disruption occurs.

Observations from the Frontier

Work Identity's Are Cracking

For more than a century, work provided more than simply income. It provided identity, stability, and a clear narrative about how a life unfolds. That infrastructure continues to fragment.

Layoffs across industries continue even as companies report strong profits. Artificial intelligence is reconfiguring entire categories of roles. Career progression is becoming less predictable, and professional identity is increasingly detached from a single employer, function, or expertise. Many people are discovering that the roles they once used to define themselves are less stable than they assumed.

HII Signal: As traditional roles fragment, identity itself is becoming a primary source of perspective, creativity, and value in work.

Adaptability Is Emerging as the New Competitive Advantage

Across sectors, leaders are discovering that strategy cycles are shortening and operating environments are becoming harder to predict. Because of this, an evolution is occurring inside some organizations.

We've noticed that a growing number of firms are investing into the ability of their people and teams to interpret signals, reconfigure quickly, and operate effectively in uncertain conditions rather than attempting to forecast every disruption.

This shift is not yet widely discussed, but it is increasingly visible in leadership conversations, organizational design experiments, and capability investments.

HII Signal: Competitive advantage is beginning to move toward the adaptability of the humans inside the system.

Society Is Experiencing Simultaneous Breakdowns and Breakthroughs

Across institutions, signs of strain continue to accumulate. Political polarization remains elevated. Trust in institutions is historically low. Public discourse is increasingly fragmented across tech platforms and narratives.

At the same time, new forms of collaboration, creativity, and knowledge are emerging at the frontiers of society. Small groups, networks, and individuals now possess tools that once belonged only to large institutions. The result is a paradoxical moment: degradation and evolution are unfolding simultaneously. This is The Great Transition.

HII Signal: We have entered a period where institutional instability and human ingenuity are rising at the same time, reshaping how societies organize, coordinate, and evolve.
